Hi Jim,
Can you explain the construction process for your jumper wires on your dd boards between different stages?
I like the way you did that.

Al,

Those were done with twisted, silver plated wire-wrap wire available (at least it used to be) at Radio Shack.  Easy to twist a length in a hand drill and then cut to length with some extra to make the connections.  Twisted wires like that are self shielding.

That was great wire and I used it for years.  Doesn't look like RS stocks it now.

It's a little larger gauge but you'll find all the twisted wire you can ever use in network cable. Look for someone that's ripping out some old network cable - you'll have all you need.

I believe we will have a few sets to sell at FDIM vendor night, but
then a restocking is needed. The first order went really fast! :-)

I will add that someone, and I don't know if it is the group, or an individual must lay out a VERY LARGE sum of money in advance when they are ordered and that money is tied up until they are all sold.

I sell an AGC kit for the miniature Xiegu X1M transceiver and the board uses 0805 size parts and the board is about the size of a large postage stamp, and I just ordered a new batch of boards last week, and I cringe each time I write the check for the boards.

Boards the size of these are VERY expensive, so one group or person(s) can only afford to tie up just so much money at any one time.

You won't regret the wait !!

I read about the dream boards some time ago but missed out on ordering any before they were all gone. Now that I have some coming (2 sets) I am thinking of all those ways I hoped to use them. I was wondering how everyone planned to use them.  It would be interesting to the group, I think, to hear about the experiments, receivers, transmitter, transceivers and what ever else you folks have in mind.

I plan to use one set to experiment with various circuits in a superhet and save the other set to actually build a transceiver.

Gene, if I can get the required crystals for the Super VXO I was planning on duplicating the SS-40TX / SS-40 combo...

BTW guys I shipped out all the orders that came in: 17 US & 2 International went out yesterday and today.

Have fun!

How many of you are interested in using the subject IC?

I sell components and if I obtain some of these in qty, it will cost a substantial amount of money, so that's why I'm asking. I can sell them here for $3 if I buy 150 from Digi-Key. There are substitutes, but not sure of the pin compatibilities yet.

It looks like Digikey only has SOIC devices in stock.  Most folks prefer the 8 pin DIP.

In stock yes, but DIP is available special order - hence the 150 qty.

Received my boards today.  I bought 2 sets.  That means I have 4 of the DD#1 so I think I'll surely build a simple superhet with one of them.  It would be conveinent if it had 2 places for mixers.  I think a second ADE-1 or a NE602 could fit on there.  I'll put the prod det and audio pre on the breadboard area. I have a very small LM386 module from eBay I can put with it for more audio if  I need to.

Quite a coincidence that the examples show a 10m transmitter using DD#2 since 10m is probably my favorite band. I worked VE7SL on 10m a while back. He was using his 6L6 rig running 4watts from Vancouver. (I'm in S. Texas) He was easily coming in 589 - loudest station on the band that day.

Are there any app notes on how folks have used these boards previously??? Iguess I'll google it.

What are the rest of you folks gonna build with them???

You can use the bread boarding area for a second mixer.

That should work fine.

Only those that I've had Terry post on the reflector. Kinda new stuff
so would not expect many application as yet.

Nothing for a while. Summer is here so time to be outside and playing
bluegrass at all of the great events that occur.

Bob,

 Go to:  http://www.4sqrp.com/dreamboards.php

It would be great if also you share the results of your projects, the dd Board group is very quiet!

I have used mine to serve as a basis for experimentation, but have really only used the BPF section, as of yet.

I am hoping to build a small Superhet on one of the boards.

Thanks Jim. I got most of the components from the schematic. There a still a few that I didn't see. Also I need to find out what this does. I'm still relatively new to kit building, but enjoy it as a learning process.

Bob nz2z

Bob,

The Designer Dream Boards were not invented as a "kit", but as a tool to prototype circuit ideas for receivers and transmitters, etc.  As such, they contain  circuit "ideas" that I have used in past projects and wanted to be able to use again without doing a Manhattan-style build or PCB for that part of the circuit.  The page link that I sent you shows how some circuits can be "kluged" together to make a working receive converter, transmitter, etc.

The board don't build into a specific kit, but are tools to build and learn how various parts of circuits can be put together to build a more complex system.

Bob,

Here is probably the best resource for the DD #1 board.

This link doesn't show up on the 4SQRP web site anymore.  I guess the DD boards
are too long in the tooth at this point in time.
